There are many steps along the Reiki journey and progression is at the discretion of the student and teacher. Many people feel that Level I is all they need. Others, who may wish to practice Reiki as a profession will need to pass Level II for many reasons including insurance purposes. Reiki Masters are able to teach Reiki and pass attunements on to others. At Level I students will be attuned to the Reiki energy and will be taught how to use the energy to treat oneself and other people. This can include the treatment of animals and plants. At Level II students will be attuned and given symbols that have different energies and uses. This level strengthens the students ability to channel Reiki and enables treatment over distance. At Reiki Master level students are attuned to further symbols which allow them to pass attunements on to others. This is a very basic overview and not all Masters will teach in the same way or to the same extent. There are lists of Reiki Masters published by many organisations, including the Reiki Association. Mathew Shand and I organise a Reiki share in Canterbury for practitioners to exchage treatments and share experiences and ideas.
